What is the timeline for Recertification processing?

Participating  Families are required to recertify their eligibility annually. The application is mailed to the family to be completed and returned with all required documentation. The process is as follows:

1. Application is mailed to family 120 days prior to the effective date of the recertification date
2. The family has 10 days to complete the application, collect all documents and return it to DCA
3. The application and documents are received by a Housing Processor within 14 days. 
   
   1. If all required information is received, the application will be forwarded to the Housing Specialist to be processed.
   2. If there is missing documentation or more information is needed, a letter will be mailed to the family to request that missing information be submitted within 10 days. 
4. Once the recertification is processed, the Housing Specialist will mail a Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) Change Notice to the family and landlord; advising that the recertification is complete as well as what the tenant portion and HAP portion will be at renewal.
